Michael Kamp leads the Trustworthy Machine Learning research group at the Institute for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (IKIM) at University Medicine Essen. He is Associate Professor for Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence at TU Dortmund University and a faculty member of the Lamarr Institute for Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence. His research focuses on trustworthy machine learning, federated and privacy-preserving learning, causal representation learning, and the theoretical foundations of deep learning, particularly for high-stakes applications in healthcare. Previously, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the CISPA Helmholtz Center for Information Security and a postdoctoral fellow at Monash University. He received his PhD from the University of Bonn for his work on federated and distributed machine learning. He has published extensively in these areas and serves on the editorial board of the Springer journal Machine Learning.
